OUR WEB DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
The most important step in any project is working out what you want your website to do. Our process is collaborative and practical, and is built so that you can change direction early, while it is still cheap to do so.
We start by asking why the website or system exists and who it is for. We talk to the people who will use it, look at how the work is done today, and find where time is lost to manual steps and workarounds. If you already have systems in place, a Systems MOT gives us both a clear picture of what is working and what is risky.
Next we turn your goals into a clear, structured specification: the user journeys, the core features, the data, and the technical risks and unknowns. This is the document we build from, and it keeps quotes and expectations honest. If you would rather put the work out to tender, we can write a technical brief for that too.
For larger projects we prototype before committing to the full build, from simple diagrams to working screens, so that you and the developers share the same understanding of where the project is going. Design focuses on clear structure and navigation that works on mobile first, using your own designs or those of our trusted graphic design partners.
We build in stages and check in with you at regular intervals, so you see real progress and can steer it. We often solve the most pressing bottleneck first, stabilise it, then move on to the next, which is how we helped Online4Baby grow from an eBay seller into a £40M retailer.
Few websites stand alone. We connect yours to the services your business runs on, and design those integrations to keep working when a third party is slow or fails. Where we are replacing an existing system, we import and tidy up your data so nothing important is lost, as we did when rescuing a Royal College's member systems.
We plan launches to minimise disruption to your customers and staff, and where needed migrate in stages rather than in one risky switch-over. We modernised our own helpdesk platform this way with zero downtime.
A website is never really finished. We can host and maintain it, keep it secure and up to date, and monitor its performance. If you would rather run it yourselves, we have built and trained in-house teams so that clients can own and manage their systems independently.
