I graduated from the University of Sheffield 2002 with a 2:1 Maths degree, and by 2006 was working for myself after working for a couple of local Web development companies and HSBC. I always knew that I wanted to do hard work and take the risks myself, and that a small business provides so much variety.
I've now had 20 years as, well, as what? PHP Programmer? Yes certainly, but that's to miss out on so many things. Sales, Marketing, Customer service, Project management, Book keeping are all important skills that I've been using to maintain the business and customers and work over this time.
And I've been lucky to work for all sorts of clients. eCommerce with Online4Baby and David Village, grant fund administration with the TUC, and managing Doctor's training records with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
The most important one has been Customer service. We have long long relationships at Artumi, which I'm very proud of.
Technically there's been so much change over the 20 years it's been exciting to see. Sometimes moving along with the changes, and sometimes holding still, and sometimes seeing the wheel turn back to where I still was. AWS is not the cool thing it used to be.
